precious story and full of Jack's own gentle nature when he holds someone he loves it seems. You told it sweet and true and fair as a morning. Liked it, liked the older who "worked with the poor lad...." what a lucky lucky bit of work that was! ;-D lovely transition, lovely flow of words. You done well with what you've writ.
